Building the Foundation for Market-Oriented Communities

Agri-Impact Malawi (AIM), established in 2018, is a hybrid institution working to transform livelihoods by creating income opportunities through inclusive markets, trade, and financial access.
We believe farming should go beyond survival to become a pathway to dignity, income, nutrition, and resilience for rural households in Malawi.

who we are

Agri-Impact Malawi is more than an implementing organisation; we are a rural transformation partner, working to strengthen farming systems and unlock inclusive agricultural opportunities.

Mission

Our mission is to create income opportunities through inclusive markets, trade, and finance as the foundation for building sustainable food and nutrition systems that enable rural communities to thrive.

Vision

Our vision is a Malawi where rural farm households are well positioned with increased income, sustainable economic growth, and better livelihoods.

why we exist

Agri-Impact Malawi exists to ensure that “Mlimi Asangalale” — the farmer rejoices through improved livelihoods and sustainable economic empowerment. We achieve this by increasing farmers’ incomes through access to profitable markets, financial linkages, and inclusive value chain opportunities.

We exist to ensure that rural farming communities are fully included in agricultural and economic transformation, with strong connections to markets, trade, and finance systems that drive sustainable growth.

Our work is rooted in equity, opportunity, and resilience, ensuring that women, youth, and marginalised groups are actively engaged in and benefiting from inclusive, market-driven rural development systems rather than being left at the margins.

Guiding Principles

Three commitments shape how we prepare the next generation of HBCU leaders.

Leadership at every level

HBCUs require committed, prepared, and visionary leadership at every administrative level to remain vital and relevant institutions in American higher education.

HBCUs as vital contributors

A belief in the importance of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) as significant contributors to the diversity, excellence, global influence, and impact of American higher education.

Grounded in the literature

A rich body of research on leadership development and best practice in higher education offers useful insight, wisdom, and practical strategy for training aspiring leaders.

Our Journey of Impact

AIM’s growth has been built through a phased and adaptive approach to rural transformation. Since its establishment, Agri-Impact Malawi (AIM) has built strong practical experience in transforming smallholder agriculture through integrated, market-oriented, and value chain, driven approaches. Our work focuses on helping rural households improve productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, strengthen market access, and increase incomes and nutrition outcomes.

Our Partnership

Working Across the Agricultural Ecosystem

These are high-potential farming communities where agriculture remains the main livelihood source, but where structural challenges continue to limit productivity and income growth. While our current focus is within these areas, AIM remains open to expanding its impact to other districts in Malawi through strategic partnerships with government, development agencies, private sector actors, and community-based organizations. We believe scaling sustainable agricultural transformation requires collaboration, shared learning, and coordinated investment.
